Victoria Hodgson

Secretary and Administrator

A doctoral research projected jointly funded by the AHRC and Stirling University’s IMPACT scheme, my research interests surround the medieval Cistercian abbey of Coupar Angus, encompassing its economic, environmental and social history. This includes the acquisition and exploitation of the abbey’s resources along with its participation in trade and commerce. I am also examining Coupar’s relationship with the laity in terms of patronage, lay expectations, and the impact of political networks and disruption. In addition, I am exploring the abbey’s ecclesiastical relations comprising filiation networks and the Cistercian hierarchy, interactions with other religious houses, and relations with the secular Church. My other research interests include the medieval earldom of Atholl, particularly internal politics, networks and landholding.
