Historical Perspectives 14th Annual Conference University of Glasgow, 16th–17th June 2017
Call for Papers
Historical Perspectives is a history society established and run by postgraduates for postgraduates, and our annual conference has now been running for thirteen years. The theme for the Historical Perspectives 14th annual conference will be ‘Seeing Eye to Eye? Conflicts in History’. The conference is to be held at the University of Glasgow on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th of June 2017.
Historical Perspectives welcomes interdisciplinary research topics, including economic, social, cultural, medieval, modern, medical history, alongside other disciplines throughout Arts and Social Sciences. Our conferences provide postgraduates with an opportunity to present their research in a supportive environment, developing the skills needed to complete a successful doctoral career. The conference also features a keynote speaker and the development of our unique Employability Panel with sessions on looking towards completion, submission, and experiences of the viva, as well as beyond the PhD.
The theme for 2017, ‘Seeing Eye to Eye? Conflicts in History’, is intended to encourage participation by postgraduates working in a range of disciplines in Arts and Social Sciences.
Papers can be on any topic relating to the theme from an historical perspective and could include, but are not limited to, the following themes:
• Environmental history.
• Gender and sexuality.
• Heritage, memory and material culture.
• Law and legal history.
• Media, art, and performance.
• Medical and scientific history.
• Nations and nationalism.
• Social and economic history.
• Politics, policy and the state.
• Pre-modern societies.
These issues are intended as suggestions only and we welcome proposals for twenty-minute papers on any topic related to the theme from any discipline.
Please submit proposals of c. 250 words by 19th March 2017 to Richard Daglish at firstname.lastname@example.org with “Conference 2017 Abstract” in the subject line.
